Everybody in Xining is absolutely fine. Unfortunately, our friends in Yushu are not so lucky. It's been a long day, waiting for news and watching the death toll rise. Luckily, we heard quite early that Brendan, our volunteer in Yushu, is homeless but alive; he and his students have been given tents and blankets, and are camped out in the courtyard.
Some of our own students got news from their families in the area fairly quickly, and some are still waiting.
Military convoys rolled out of Xining this morning, on their way to Yushu, and apparently the Qinghai airforce (yeah, who knew we had an airforce? we barely even have airports) has been helping. But the roads have been badly damaged, and we've heard there isn't much heavy equipment to help dig out survivors, so people are trying to dig them out by hand.
Best thoughts to everybody down there.
